Q.1: What are the GPA requirements to apply to/be an active member of the National German Honor Society? - A.1: New applicants and current members must have an overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, as well as a German GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

 

Q.2: What are the service hour requirements for active members of the National German Honor Society? - A.2: As an active member of the National German Honor Society for the 2020/2021 school year, you are required to completed a total of ten service hours. Five of the service hours should be internal service hours and five of the service hours should be external service hours. You are welcome to complete more than the required number of service hours; however, the minimum requirement must be met in order to receive a graduation cord for the National German Honor Society (seniors) or maintain membership for the following academic year (juniors). Internal hours refer to service experiences or events that are hosted by the National German Honor Society, as well as any committee projects within and/or among committees of the National German Honor Society. Examples include participation in Stammtisch, creation of posters and/or videos for sustainability, tutoring, and the creation and/or maintenance of the honor society's website, social media accounts and podcast. External hours refer to any service experiences or volunteer opportunities that are external to the National German Honor Society. Examples include volunteering at a holiday soup kitchen, cleaning up trash from a local park, sponsoring a virtual holiday party for a senior living community, organizing a virtual retreat for a sport's team or scout's troop, etc. Service hours must be earned in the 2020/2021 school year. No credit will be given to hours earned before the current school year.

 

Q.3: How should members communicate with each other, as well as with Committee Leaders, Officers and the Faculty Adviser? - A.3: All members are expected to communicate via the National German Honor Society Slack. This platform will be used to share announcements, meeting details, surveys, project ideas, etc. It is imperative that members check Slack daily.

 

Q.4: Can members only work on projects within their committees? - A.4: Although members are organized into committees, all members are able to interact with and support each other. This includes working on projects from other committees and attending events that are hosted by other committees.
